PANERAI LUMINOR GMT BUCHERER BLUE –
AN ANNIVERSARY EXTRAVAGANZA IN BLUE
November 9th, 2020
A new chapter has now been added to the success story of exceptional timepieces launched by Bucherer BLUE and Panerai with the Panerai Luminor GMT Bucherer BLUE. This model is more than a homage to a historic collaboration spanning more than two decades – this joint creation is an exceptional anniversary celebration of a true Panerai icon that turns 70 in 2020. In fact, it is the celebration of the most iconic creation of the Florentine Manufacture and the perfect watch in which to debut an exceptional first in the history of Panerai: the Super-LumiNova® coating, radiating by night in a mesmerising electric blue colour. The elaborate functionality of the Luminor collection fuses with Italian design genius to create an exceptional sports-watch with additional unique blue details, such as the rubberised crown in electric blue and the blue stitching on the strap. The Panerai Luminor GMT Bucherer BLUE is limited to 288 pieces , and is available exclusively at Bucherer.
Despite their rich history, the Florentine watchmaker Panerai and Bucherer BLUE are always on a quest for innovation to cater to true watch connoisseurs around the world. Both brands love to play with expectations, pushing their limits and encouraging each other to develop forward-thinking and extraordinary creations. Panerai was one of the few partners to debut two creations for the original launch of Bucherer BLUE in 2016, followed by a third timepiece in 2019. Their fourth and newest joint creation, based on the PAM01176 reference, sets out to conquer the world of fine watches and aims to excite Panerai fans worldwide.
Functional excellence meets cosmopolitan FLAIR
The Panerai Luminor GMT Bucherer BLUE showcases the timeless appeal of the iconic Luminor family with a new audacity, or as Jean-Marc Pontroué, CEO of Panerai states: “It is a pleasure for Panerai and its Laboratorio di Idee to create this unique piece dedicated to this colour, an illustration of Bucherer’s heritage. We look forward to enriching and strengthening our collaboration even more!” Patrick Graf, Chief Commercial Officer at Bucherer adds: “We are delighted to launch this stunning Bucherer BLUE timepiece in collaboration with Panerai, pushing the boundaries to provide our clients a truly exceptional watch for everyday wear.”
The limited special edition for Bucherer BLUE reflects Swiss watchmaking expertise combined with Italian design genius and Panerai’s maritime heritage. The sophisticated technology of a precision instrument with the masculine ruggedness of its ceramic case is paired with an understated elegance and cosmopolitan flair thanks to the new GMT function, one of Panerai’s most popular travel complications.
A true highlight of the Panerai Luminor GMT Bucherer BLUE and a world premiere in Panerai’s history is the Super-LumiNova® coating that radiates in electric blue in the dark. The exclusive Bucherer BLUE touch is also included in various subtle details on the timepiece: the small seconds hand, the GMT hand and the stitching on the strap have all been accentuated in electric blue. The rubberized blue crown, a Bucherer BLUE exclusive feature, is a highlight in itself, wonderfully showcasing Panerai’s Italian design heritage. The numbered case back adds an additional touch of exclusivity to this durable and functional timepiece. Lovers of Panerai sports watches who lead an active and adventurous lifestyle have the option to switch to the additional hard-wearing caoutchouc strap, which they can change with the included Panerai strap-changing tool.
COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY
Panerai has strong associations with the colour blue, which reflects its maritime heritage and the timepieces the company has created for different types of marine activities. To honour and maintain this legacy, Panerai is developing new, environmentally friendly products under the Panerai Ecologico label, such as both Panerai Luminor GMT Bucherer BLUE straps made from recycled PET bottles and a recycled ABS packaging shell, underlining the Maison’s commitment to sustainability.
ATHLETIC SOPHISTICATION FOR CONTEMPORARY SPIRITS
The exclusive details of the Panerai Luminor GMT Bucherer BLUE give the wearer a unique visual statement and a constant reminder to search for new horizons and new adventures.
The new masterpiece of the Bucherer BLUE collection will appeal to experts who appreciate the exceptional reinterpretation of one of the most iconic Panerai models that combines contemporary design with traditional features. It will also excite watch lovers with a special affection for the unique history and heritage of Florentine watchmaker Panerai, who first created the Luminor Marina’s predecessor decades ago for the Italian Navy’s divers and submariners.
This timepiece is available exclusively in Bucherer boutiques and online at www.bucherer.com from November 2020.

The family-owned company Bucherer, which was founded in 1888, has one of the most distinguished traditions in Europe’s watch and jewellery industry. Over the last 130 years, Bucherer has established an exclusive reputation with its range of exquisite and prize-winning jewellery creations. Its boutiques also offer the company’s international clientele a wide range of luxury watches from renowned brands. Bucherer is present in 36 locations across Europe: with 17 stores in Switzerland, 10 in Germany, flagship stores in Vienna and Paris, a store in Copenhagen, Denmark, and 6 boutiques in London. In January 2018, Bucherer also acquired the US luxury watch retailer Tourneau, which gives the group a presence in the USA with 32 stores. The company employs over 2,400 staff, is currently managed by Jörg G. Bucherer, and has now been under the stewardship of the Bucherer family for three generations. The Bucherer headquarters remains in Lucerne to this day.
Founded in Florence in 1860 as a workshop, shop and school of watchmaking, for many decades, Panerai supplied the Italian Navy specialist diving corps with precision instruments.
The designs developed by Panerai in that time, including the Luminor and Radiomir, were covered by the Military Secrets Act for many years and were launched on the international market only after the brand was acquired by the Richemont Group in 1997.
Today, Panerai develops and crafts its movements and watches at its Neuchâtel Manufacture. The watches are a seamless melding of Italian design flair and history with Swiss horological expertise.
